IS THE DOG GOOD WITH PEOPLE?

Kara barks at any new people coming into the home and does take quite some time to settle, she comes across as aggressive and can be scary for new people. She seems to be worse with men, for example, we had a plumber here for a few hours and as he moved around she did not settle, we shut her in one room and she would still bark unless I sat and comforted her. I believe it comes from fear and both her and her daughter Stella reacted to me this way when i first went to collect them. If the visitor sits with her and gives her reassurance she will settle.

Kara is fine with strangers when outside the home.

HAS THE DOG BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHILDREN? Yes, 9-15, if the child is still then she will settle, but erratic movements will cause her to react and bark which can be scary for small children. she seems to react more to boys than girls. We do not have any children living in the house, just regular visitors. I have suggested that she should only live with children over 12, this would only be if they are confident and dog savvy. she has not shown any actual aggression but does look and sound aggressive.

Kara is fine with children outside of the home.

COULD LIVE WITH CHILDREN OVER 12 YEARS? yes

IS THE DOG AFRAID OF OR REACTIVE- As previously stated, Kara does react to new people in the home - particularly men. She barks aggressively, it appears to come from fear rather than aggression. Wary of the hoover!

Kara is fine with strangers outside of the home.

IS THE DOG GOOD WITH ALL OTHER DOGS?

Kara is currently living with her daughter, Stella, and our other 3 dogs, 2 female border terriers and a male cockapoo with no issues.

HOW DOES THE DOG NORMALLY INTERACT WITH OTHER DOGS? Out on walks she mostly sticks near Stella, her daughter, and doesn't approach new dogs - but if approached she reacts well, no issues

HOW DOES THE DOG REACT TO CATS? Not tested with cats

IS THE DOG RELIABLY HOUSETRAINED? Yes

CRATE TRAINED? OR NOT USED A CRATE WHILST WITH YOU? Not used with us

IS THE DOG RELIABLE AT DOORS/GATES OR PRONE TO BOLTING? PLEASE GIVE DETAILS. Yes, she will wait when told to

HOW IS THE DOG ON A LEAD? Great on a lead and does not pull at all

RECALL: Kara has excellent recall, she will come back when called and will regularly check-in even when not called.

DOES THE DOG HAVE SEPARATION ANXIETY?  She is fine when left, but does have the company of her daughter, Stella, and 3 other dogs

IS THE DOG AGGRESSIVE WITH FOOD? TOYS? ANY KIND OF RESOURCE GUARDING? Not at all,

HAS THE DOG EVER BITTEN ANYONE? Not in my care, although she can come across as aggressive with her barking but she isn’t.

IS THE DOG OBSESSED WITH BALLS? OTHER TOYS? Enjoys toys and ball playing - not obsessed. Likes to take a toy to bed with her.

DOES THE DOG HAVE ANY BAD OR UNUSUAL HABITS? The only bad habit is barking aggressively when new people come into the home.

DOG'S FEEDING ROUTINE: Twice a day, around 7.30am and 6pm. We feed her a mix of dry and wet food, she has been very enthusiastic about her food since she arrived with us - loves anything and everything we have given her. She gets a treat after a walk and occasionally during play.

WHERE DOES THE DOG SPEND THE DAY? FREE INDOORS? CONFINED TO ONE ROOM? Free to roam indoors

WHERE DOES THE DOG SPEND THE NIGHT

Confined to the kitchen at night with her daughter, Stella, and 2 of my other dogs.

WHERE DOES THE DOG SPEND TIME IF LEFT ALONE IN THE HOUSE? FREE INDOORS? CONFINED TO ONE ROOM? CRATED? HOW LONG IS HE CURRENTLY LEFT? Free indoors with her daughter Stella, and my 3 other dogs. The maximum time they have been left is 4 hours.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S PREFERRED BEDDING AND PLACE TO SLEEP. She will sleep in her bed along with her daughter, Stella, and now one of my other dogs goes in with them - they also have the option of the sofa in the kitchen.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S CURRENT EXERCISE ROUTINE: Kara is walked for approximately an hour a day, off lead across open farm land. She loves to swim and will jump into the river at any given chance. We are also fortunate to have over an acre of land and so all dogs play outside too.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S ENERGY LEVELS. Kara loves her walks and play, but she will also happily settle down on the sofa for a cuddle. She happily sleeps for much of the day.

HOW IS THE DOG WITH GROOMING? DESCRIBE HOW HE COPES WITH BRUSHING, NAILS, BATHING ETC. We have only brushed and bathed Kara - no more than that and she is fine, we put her in a towel jacket after washing her down post walk and she tolerates that, not quite as happy in it as my other dogs!

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S BEST QUALITIES, THE THINGS THAT MAKE HIM SPECIAL. Kara is very loyal, she is very affectionate once you have won her trust. She will reward you with a wag of her tail if you just glance over at her. She sleeps on her back with her legs in the air, either wiggling them whilst dreaming or snoring loudly! She is a beautiful girl.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S IDEAL HOME, WHAT KIND OF FAMILY WOULD HE SUIT, AND WHERE WOULD HE BE HAPPIEST. Kara would benefit from a quiet environment without too much coming and going as she gets spooked with new people in the home.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER DOG THAT HASN'T BEEN COVERED ABOVE? Kara and her daughter Stella lived in an outside kennel in their previous home, this is the first time they have been allowed beyond one room in a home. She has adapted to the comforts well. She will make a wonderful faithful companion.

ANY OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS AT ALL? PLEASE GIVE DETAILS. none

IS THE DOG GOOD WITH PEOPLE? Stella is very affectionate and very submissive, she will roll onto her back for tummy tickles and craves attention. She, along with her mother (Kara) is wary of strangers and new people who come into the house but fine when out on a walk. she follows Kara's lead and will bark at strangers, especially men. If Kara is not around then she is much more welcoming

HAS THE DOG BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHILDREN? Yes, 9-15 she is absolutely fine and loves a cuddle

COULD LIVE WITH CHILDREN OVER 12 YEARS? yes

IS THE DOG AFRAID OF OR REACTIVE TO WOMEN? MEN? OTHER DOGS? OTHER ANIMALS? HOUSEHOLD ITEMS? THUNDER/LOUD NOISES? ANYTHING ELSE? Stella is absolutely fine with every dog and person she comes across, however she will join her mum Kara in barking when new people enter the home - she calms a lot more quickly than Kara and will not react at all if Kara is not around

IS THE DOG GOOD WITH ALL OTHER DOGS?

She currently lives with 2 border terriers and a cockapoo - as well as her mum - and they all get on fine. in particular, her and my border Cherry are very affectionate with each other

HOW DOES THE DOG NORMALLY INTERACT WITH OTHER DOGS? Out on walks she mostly sticks near Kara and doesn't approach new dogs - but if approached she reacts well, no issues

HOW DOES THE DOG REACT TO CATS? Not tested with cats

IS THE DOG RELIABLY HOUSETRAINED? yes, however, she does sometimes have an accident. She will roll onto her back and wee. there's no medical reason and this has improved since she has been with us, she doesn't ask to go out so we need to let her out regularly

CRATE TRAINED? Not used with us

IS THE DOG RELIABLE AT DOORS/GATES OR PRONE TO BOLTING? PLEASE GIVE DETAILS. She is fine and will wait when told to

HOW IS THE DOG ON A LEAD? Great on a lead, does not pull at all

RECALL: Excellent recall, however, very submissive. she will come back when called and regularly check-in even when not called. each time she will roll onto her back.

IS THE DOG AGGRESSIVE WITH FOOD? TOYS? ANY KIND OF RESOURCE GUARDING? No aggression shown at all.

HAS THE DOG EVER BITTEN ANYONE? Not in my care

IS THE DOG OBSESSED WITH BALLS? OTHER TOYS? Enjoys toys and ball playing - not obsessed. likes to take a toy to bed with her

DOES THE DOG HAVE ANY BAD OR UNUSUAL HABITS? As previously mentioned, Stella is very submissive and will roll onto her back all of the time. She does often wee, it seems that when she goes out she doesn't empty her bladder and there are times when she will roll on her back for attention and she'll wee. It doesn't happen every day, and it has been getting less the longer she has been with us. I am not sure she knows that it has happened as she doesn't show any signs of awareness.

DOG'S FEEDING ROUTINE: Twice a day, around 7.30am and 6pm. We feed her a mix of dry and wet food, she has been very enthusiastic about her food since she arrived with us - loves anything and everything we have given her. She gets a treat after a walk and occasionally during play

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S BEST QUALITIES, THE THINGS THAT MAKE HIM SPECIAL. Stella is a very affectionate girl, any chance she gets she will come over to you for a stroke or tummy tickle - or even better if she can get on your lap for a cuddle. She is very submissive and will cone to where you are sitting, roll on her back and wait for you to talk to her and encourage her to come closer for a cuddle. She has become really affectionate with one of my border terriers, they snuggle together and groom each other.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S IDEAL HOME, WHAT KIND OF FAMILY WOULD HE SUIT, AND WHERE WOULD HE BE HAPPIEST. Stella craves attention so would benefit from being in a home where she would receive this. She needs regular exercise and loves to play. if not re-homed with her mum then company of another dog would be beneficial.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER DOG THAT HASN'T BEEN COVERED ABOVE? Stella and her mum Kara were in an outside kennel in their previous home, this is the first time they have been allowed beyond one room in a home. She has adapted very well except for the bladder issues. I have seen an improvement with this whilst she has been in my care and would think that this would continue to improve in a permanent home. Although she has become more independent of her mother as time has gone by, I do think that she would benefit from being re-homed with her mum if at all possible.

Although Foster dogs have been assessed, they will need time to decompress .

Please allow them time to adapt and get used to their new environment and you before rushing things such as socialising , groomers, vet visits ( unless there is a health concern) and even walking them in some cases.

They must never be left alone with other pets or children.

The information on my posts is what I am given from the foster assessment.

Please pm Dawn Clough to express an interest, you will be added to a list and then the successful family will be contacted and the post updated .

Any additional info to support your application and what you have to offer will be greatly appreciated and help me with my final decision.
