FOREVER HOME WANTED

I am looking for Coopers forever home, he is a great dog who will need to live as an only dog or with a calm female dog.

The puppy in his foster home is contributing to Coopers excitement and mouthing.

His foster agrees that a different environment will help Cooper to be less excitable.

He is a gorgeous boy

IS DOG CURRENTLY ON ANY MEDICATION? No

DOES THE DOG HAVE ANY KNOWN HEALTH ISSUES? No

DOES THE DOG HAVE A BITE HISTORY OR ANY BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS? He can be a bit mouthy when he gets over-stimulated, like when putting on his harness at the beginning of the walk. We keep calm around him, and take our time when he gets excited, and we've never been hurt. I suspect that he would be less excited if he were on his own or with an older, calm dog, but at the moment we can't try that out.

DOES THE DOG PACE, CHASE SHADOWS? No

IS THE DOG PEOPLE FRIENDLY? Yes

IS THE DOG CHILD FRIENDLY? Don't know - no children here.

COULD THE DOG LIVE WITH CHILDREN? Unknown but I would say not because of the mouthing.

IS THE DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? He's very at ease and calm with our older dog, but can become very excited with our puppy. I don't know if this is also gender related so it could be that he'd prefer an older female dog. He is good meeting dogs on the beach and on town walks.

COULD THE DOG LIVE WITH A DOG/DOGS? He'd be good as an only dog or with an older, steady female dog.

IS THE DOG CAT TESTED? We have 2 cats. 1 male who is confident and dog savvy - he sits with us and is fine so Cooper has learnt to get on with him. The older female cat runs and Cooper chases.

IS THE DOG OK WITH SMALL FURRIES? We have chickens that initially he chased, though not now. He didn't show any interest in birds on the beach or in the woods, and he's not gone chasing rabbits.

WHAT FOOD IS THE DOG CURRENTLY ON AND FEEDING ROUTINE? He was on dry when he arrived and he was a grazer. With our 2 that couldn't work so he is now raw fed twice daily. No transition problems. He also eats carrots, broccoli - pretty much any veg - and fruit happily, and we use dried liver treats or cold pressed food for scatter feeding sometimes. He likes a kong or lick mat. There's no problem with delivering treats to all three together.

IS THE DOG RELIABLY HOUSETRAINED? Yes

IS THE DOG CRATE TRAINED? No

DOES THE DOG TRAVEL OK IN THE CAR, DO YOU USE A CRATE OR SEAT BELT HARNESS? Yes, very happy in a car. We use a harness and seatbelt.

WHAT IT IS THE DOG LIKE ON A LEAD? Pulls when we walk him with the puppy - this is part of his excitement. He walks easily when on his own or with our older dog.

DOES THE DOG HAVE RECALL? Yes. He responds to both whistle and voice.

DOES THE DOG RESPOND TO ANY COMMANDS/WHISTLE? Commands - spin, sit and lie down.

DOES THE DOG HAVE SEPARATION ANXIETY, CAN THE DOG BE LEFT IF SO HOW LONG? We haven't left them for long because of the excitement around our puppy. He is able to switch off and we are now working to increase from 30 mins.

DOES THE DOG RESOURCE GUARD TOYS, BALLS OR FOOD, ETC? Very good around food - no issues. He is very ball oriented and takes some time to decompress and release the ball after play. We generally don't play with balls to prevent over-excitement. He loves a sock or toy but he does swap for treats.

WHERE IS THE DOGS PREFERRED PLACE TO SLEEP? He sleeps happily in his bed beside ours, but also likes snuggling on our bed in the morning.

DESCRIBE THE DOGS ENERGY LEVELS AND THE AMOUNT OF EXERCISE, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STIMULATION REQUIRED At 2.5 yrs old he has lots of energy but benefits most from mental stimulation. He has a great nose and would be perfect for scent work. I hide treats around the house and he is great at finding them. I would suggest 2 smaller walks rather than one big one to help with the excitement levels. He has done a little humping when over-stimulated but no problem stopping him.

DOES THE DOG HAVE ESCAPE TENDENCIES (FLIGHT RISK)? He hasn't tried to escape from house or garden.

IS THE DOG VOCAL/BARKS/HOWLING? He barks with excitement when getting ready to go out or at feeding times. Generally quiet the rest of the time.

HOW IS THE DOG WITH GROOMING, BATHING, BRUSHING? Hosing him down after getting muddy is fine. He's not great with a brush so we're introducing that slowly. The previous owners groomed him so I think that will come back with time. They said he's not good with a dryer and we haven't tried that.

HOW IS THE DOG AT THE VETS? No visits yet.

IS THE DOG REACTIVE TO ANYTHING? No.

PLEASE IN YOUR OWN WORDS DESCRIBE THE DOGS BEST QUALITY’S AND WHAT YOU FEEL WOULD BE THE RIGHT HOME. He is a very happy, friendly boy. He loves walks, using his brain and nose, and lying in water when he gets too warm. He loves lying in the garden in the sun, watching the world go by, or curling up with you on the sofa. He loves running in the fields or on the beach but he also needs things that will stimulate his brain and nose. He loves running around with a large stick or chasing seaweed into the sea. He just needs someone calm who can help him manage his excitement so he learns not to use his mouth. He doesn't need to be with you all the time but I think he likes to know you're around.

DESCRIBE THE DOG'S IDEAL HOME, WHAT KIND OF FAMILY WOULD HE SUIT, AND WHERE WOULD HE BE HAPPIEST. His ideal home would be active but calm and where he is either the only dog or he shares with another older female dog. Somewhere he gets to be fussed and loved, and where he gets to visit beaches and woods, and do lots of exploring.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER DOG THAT HASN'T BEEN COVERED ABOVE? He's a really gorgeous boy and it's been a very, very difficult decision to give him up. I genuinely think the mouthing is excitement and with a calmer environment (ie. no puppy or cared cat!) he would learn to be excited without using his mouth. He loves to learn and really focuses when using his nose, or when he has a job to do.
